CAUTION
The common pitfalls
It is unnecessary to include a complete sentence in the search field, or add items under (a, an, the etc.).. This can cause a number of responses too much or otherwise no response at all (not application specific enough or too specific).
Limit your requests to 3 words maximum.
Pay attention to spelling and usage of the term in the catalog.
For example: melena, use melena.
Remember to write down or copy and paste into a text file storage, document or reference to an article (the issue of the journal, the date of publication, year of publication, pages article), the selected document, and check availability.
If your topic involves several concepts, then do a search with each concept. It's up to you to make a synthesis in your essay.
For example: a search on "the impact of background music in the operating room, it will perform multiple searches and keywords vary in use (keeping in mind the main ideas contained in the issue: Music and surgery)
music & working conditions
music & operating room
stress & technical gesture
music & surgery
music & preparation of the operation etc..
few tips additional
Operators (Boolean) search are: & for AND, + for OR - for NOT.
An implicit truncation
exists for quick search, advanced search, engines and advanced search criteria. For example with "hepatic" you will get results containing hepat-itis, hepat-ology, hepat-ocellulaire, hepat-o-gastroenterology etc..
Similarly, for "care" you will get both care and care-s, but to "care" you only get care.
You can view all the works of a given row, by clicking on the criterion Storage and selecting a particular category (see the classification scheme works in the section 1 The funds of the BEH).

How to use the catalog of BEH?
Several research opportunities exist in the catalog.
Either Quick (fields to the left of the screen)
Enter one keyword or term (maximum 2) and select the corresponding base to ask: all Documents available in the catalog or only Articles , or only Books , or only Memoirs or only the Websites or Thesaurus verify the use of the keyword in the database.
Warning , research Documents carried out on all documents (books, articles, dissertations, websites) and all elements of documents such as title, abstract and keywords .
Either Advanced Search (tab to the left of the screen)
Check the type (s) of document to search (eg "Book" and "Memory") and enter the relevant keywords (after diligence of the thesaurus). If you use more keywords, add the & operator (for ET), + (for OR) and - (for NOT).
example:
care &
child care + child care
- child
Each criterion (blue) of the advanced search engine has its own (Keywords, Publishers, Reviews, Authors, storage). If you click on a field appears to the right. To verify the existence of a keyword, enter the desired term. A list of answers appears. Once the term selected, select it. And as many times necessary.
For example: If I register
"hyp", I get a list of terms of 9 pages with "hyp" gonadotropins from hyp-hyp-ophysaires erstimulation ovaries.
If I want to combine several terms, I start the operation following the terms and added to as and in the field keywords.
example:
metabolism / diabetes, for any books containing the term metabolism and for any books containing the term diabetes, or two words at a time.
If research is unsuccessful, consider the Title field by specifying the specific terms your search, or start with the Quick Search field in the Documents with another term of the previous close.
For example: If
"patient" does not give sufficient results, then try with "sick" if "doctor-patient relationship" does not give satisfactory results, then try with "nurse-patient relationship" and so on.
Notes
You can directly combine these fields by entering a term in the field. A removable operator is proposed to left field: Title
Or Keywords Title Keywords
And Title Keywords And Or Keywords
Keywords AND Keywords etc..
When you see the list of bibliographic records , click on the item record document located to access the full record (note: the results can be displayed on several pages, and books are still end of list). Raise the rating and availability (right of screen) or the book of memory. It remains to find the book on the shelves (the classification scheme follows an alphabetical order. It is awarded in early training at the presentation of the library displayed in the reading room and available on site in Section 10.2 - The classification scheme). If the book is not available, you can book it (be careful to reserve a book registration is required in advance).
Attention indexing journal articles stopped in 2004 for the catalog of the library. To search for items, use the specialized databases (see Section 4 for how DOCUMENTATION find an article with BDSP, or CISMEF PUBMED).
Warning , the catalog contains 11,000 references to articles, but every periodic subscription (journals) only were not indexed. Note that some of these journals are no longer a subscription or no longer exist (see Section 1.4 for a list of current periodicals subscriptions). Many are already archived.
